What is the difference between carpet dry cleaning & steam cleaning?

Carpet cleaning can help your home look and feel great. It can get rid of lingering odors and brighten up your space. It can also cut down on dust and allergens to help your family breathe better. When it comes to getting your carpets cleaned, you can choose carpet dry cleaning or steam cleaning, and both come with different pros and cons. Understanding these differences will help you pick the option that is best for your home.

Carpet Dry Cleaning Process

The first step in carpet dry cleaning is removing dry soil with a pre-vacuum. The industrial strength equipment ensures that the maximum amount of dirt is removed. After that, the carpet is treated with a special combination of dry-cleaning solvents in water. These solutions break down oily residue not picked up by the vacuum.

After this is applied, the oil breaks down so it can be removed. Cotton pads soaked in hot water are attached to a rotary machine which removes the oily dirt from the carpets. These pads may be changed several times during cleaning.

This process is completed within one hour, and you are free to walk on the carpet again after that. This process is also able to remove a lot more stains than other types of cleaning. Because the dry cleaning process breaks down oily residue, it will target more stains and restore the chemical balance of your carpet.

Carpet Steam Cleaning Process

A pre-vacuum is performed before cleaning to remove any dry soils. If left, the dry dirt will turn into mud during the cleaning process and cause damage to the carpet. Steam cleaning may also be called hot water extraction cleaning.

Hot water is injected into the carpet with high pressure. Then the water is extracted. During extraction, the dirt is taken out of the carpet with the water. Stains are pre-treated with a special spray to help break down the dirt to make it easier to clean.

This process may leave your carpets wet for up to 24 hours after the process is completed. Using the right pretreatment techniques will ensure that even the toughest stains will be removed.  Qualified technicians will achieve good results, but if stains are not properly removed, they will come back. This makes it important to contact a qualified and experienced company.

Your Home

Both types of carpet cleaning can be effective, so it is up to you to decide which one will be best for your home. Dry cleaning is more convenient because you can walk on your carpets much faster than with steam cleaning. If you have a large family or small children who won’t stay off carpeted areas very well, then the ease of having it done quickly may be beneficial.

Steam cleaning may be better if you want a deeper clean that lasts longer. Because of the process involved, the entire carpet is expertly cleaned instead of just the surface. This can remove deeper problems like allergens and problem stains that seem to keep coming back.
